Panthers sign Breeland to a 3-year deal

The Carolina Panthers just traded away a starting cornerback, but now it appears that they have a new one as they signed former Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland to a 3-year/$24 million contract. Breeland has been a starting cornerback for Washington since he entered the league in 2014 and he has 8 career interceptions. Breeland doesn’t really have the size to compete with the big receivers that he will be facing in the NFC South. He will be going up against big receivers like Mike Evans, Julio Jones, and Michael Thomas twice a year which will be a major challenge. However, Breeland does have a good physical style of play that should at least allow him to compete with those type of players. Carolina had a major need for help in the secondary especially after they traded away starting cornerback Daryl Worley to the Eagles. Breeland isn’t a great starting cornerback, but he should be a good 2nd cornerback to go along with young corner James Bradberry. Breeland will help to fill the need for a cornerback for the Panthers and he should be an upgrade over what they had at the position last year.
