Analysis:

The Bills have probably gotten worse this offseason especially since they lost star cornerback Stephon Gilmore in free agency and it makes it even worse that the division rival Patriots signed him. Now, the Bills are extremely thin at cornerback which could be an issue if they want to compete with the Patriots in the AFC East. However, Buffalo really got worse at the wide receiver position as they lost Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin in free agency. Neither of those guys are very good receivers, but it is still a big concern to lose them as the only reliable receiver that they have on the depth chart right now is Sammy Watkins. He is always injured and the Bills desperately need to draft a receiver in the early rounds of the upcoming NFL draft. Buffalo didn’t make too many improvements to their team, but they clearly focused on the safety position. Micah Hyde could start at strong safety for the Bills, although he could also fill a void at cornerback as well. Hyde is good in coverage and he is only getting paid $6 million per year which is a good deal for Buffalo. Jordan Poyer was also signed to try and upgrade the free safety position, but I’m not a huge fan of that signing since he isn’t a very good starting safety and he isn’t much of an upgrade over what they had at that position. The Bills also added former Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka which I think is a good move. Hauschka struggled with extra-points last season, but he is still a very good kicker that should provide some stability on special teams. I also like the addition of fullback Patrick DiMarco since he should open up some running lanes for LeSean McCoy and the Bills running game. However, it is strange that they brought in another fullback with Mike Tolbert and that just seems like a wasted signing. Overall, the Bills have major needs to fill at the cornerback and wide receiver positions and none of the additions that they made will likely make much of an impact. Buffalo was close to a playoff team last season, but they will need to do a lot in the draft to improve their team since theyb had a poor free agency.
