The Miami Dolphins had a big need at safety and they helped fill that void on Friday by signing safety Nate Allen to a 1-year/$3.4 million contract. Miami recently waived their starting safety Isa Abdul-Quddus because of what is expected to be a career-ending neck injury. However, I’m not sure if Allen is a great option as a starting safety for Miami and the team will probably need to at least bring in some competition at the position. There is no doubt that Allen can be a decent starting safety if needed since he was a starter for 5 seasons with Philadelphia from 2010-2014. However, he has spent the past 2 seasons primarily as a backup with the Raiders. This could be a good bargain signing for Miami if he plays well as the starting safety, but Allen is nothing more than a temporary solution and the Dolphins should find a better option at the position.
